3. Why have you chosen to run for office?

To assist citizens of Blount County with their concerns.

 

4.  What makes you qualified to hold this office?

My 35 years in nursing, 5 years active duty, 8 years reserves in the Army, Tennessee resident for 29 years, 18 in Blount County in Friendsville.

 

5. What do you see as the three most critical issues facing Blount County?

(1)       Overcrowded Schools

(2)       Losing the green, scenic areas of B.C.

(3)       Poor and unsafe road conditions.

 

6. How do you propose to address each of these three issues?

(1)       Assess the possibility of building (not annex. blgs) classrooms at the most critically overcrowded schools, if possible, and develop long range plans to build a new H. S. (within 5 yrs.)

(2)       Have developers submit “green space plans” park-like; limit building in designated “green space areas.”

(3)       Stop signs, painted divided roads, directional signs more prominent.

8. How would you assess the current pace of development in Blount County?

9.  Do you support the passage of an Adequate Facilities Tax or other Development or Impact Fee?      T Yes or c No    

Why or why not?

This would relieve tax-payer burden and place the responsibility on those most likely to benefit.

 

10.       Are you familiar with the Knoxville Transportation Organization and its impact on road/highway planning in Blount County?  c Yes or c No 

Aware but have not studied.

Would you support a measure to increase communication between our county representatives to this body and our county legislative body?  Why or why not?

Would invite participation from the Raven Society because they represent a large number of B. C. residents.

 

11. Do you support the extension of the Pellissippi Parkway from Old Knoxville Highway (SR 33) to US 321?   c Yes or T No  

Please explain why you support or oppose the extension.

Too large an impact on farming and environment – loss of green space.

 

12. Would you support or oppose the Proposed Interstate 140 By-Pass (Southern Loop) around Maryville and within the County?

Same as above.

 

13. What do you plan to do to prevent or encourage the completion of the Southern Loop?

Continue to get voter, resident feedback – present to TDOT.

 

14. How do you intend to address the development pressures these potential new roads will bring, including impacts on Blount County's secondary roads, schools, public services, air, and water quality?

Programs that show what B. C. can look like with proper development - win citizen support a few at a time

 

15. What do you see as the best way to protect the rural, natural, and historic qualities of Blount County?

Have a “green space committee,” assess the impact, report to Planning Commission.

Develop noise pollution ordinances.

Develop “eye sore” (junked cars) ordinance.

 

16. What is your vision for Blount County in 5 years?

more park-like areas in subdivisions

less multi-unit buildings

less crowded schools

 

17. What is your vision for Blount County in 20 years?

Same as above plus removing “eye sores” like junked cars.
